This program is open to residents of any village/town/city and will be run by the Westfield Recreation Department. Practices will all be in Westfield. Most games will be in Westfield.
Those who participated last season, will receive a mailing by October 21st and can sign up as they soon as they receive their mailing by signing up either at the Village Window at Eason Hall (open 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekdays) or by mailing in the form & money to us at 23 Elm St., Westfield, NY 14787. Everyone else can sign up in these two ways, starting on Tuesday, October 22nd.
There will be three different grade groups: 1st & 2nd grades, 3rd & 4th grades, and 5th & 6th grades. The 1st & 2nd grades will be co-ed and the older groups will be separated boys and girls. The 1st & 2nd grades group will be a clinic with a focus on building skills and fundamentals. The older grade groups will start together as clinics/skill assessments, and eventually form into their own teams who will play each other and possibly play teams from other towns. The season will start on Saturday, November 2nd for 5th & 6th graders, TBD for 3rd & 4th graders, and on Saturday, November 16th for 1st & 2nd graders and go through Saturday, February 1st. The 1st & 2nd grades group will just meet on Saturday mornings. The older grade groups will practice one evening a week and play most games on Saturday afternoons/evenings with some possible weeknight games.
We are talking with representatives from other towns’ youth basketball programs about possibly playing some games against their teams and competing in a combined league. However, we are planning to have an “in house” league where our teams compete against each other. For parents, who want to have their kids play in a more competitive league against teams from other towns, they will have to chance to sign them up for that opportunity as well as our “in house” league, or to just sign them up for the competitive league.
For the boys’ league with the other towns’ programs, they are planning on having separate A and B leagues. Both leagues will still focus on fun and development, but the A league will be more competitive, while the B league will be more recreational. Towns with teams in these leagues will include: Cassadaga Valley, Chautauqua Lake, Forestville, Fredonia, Panama, Sherman, and Southwestern (Lakewood).
For the girls’ league, details are still being planned, and we know that Chautauqua Lake will have their own teams. The possibility of playing other towns’ teams beyond Chautauqua Lake is still being planned.
On the registration form, parents of 3rd-6th graders will have the following options:
I would like to sign my child up for the following program options (check all that apply):
__________ “In House” Rec League (playing against our own teams)
__________ A League Competitive (playing against other towns best teams)
__________ B League Recreational (playing against other towns rec. teams)
Our rec teams, whether they’re playing in our “in house” league or the B league against other towns will practice one night a week and will typically play one game a week (mostly on Saturdays). Our A league team will attempt to practice twice a week if gym time permits and will typically play one game a week (mostly on Saturdays, but with some weeknight games possible).
We are very much still looking for individuals at all grade levels who are willing to coach. Coaches will be responsible for communicating with their teams, running practices and coaching their teams at games (for the older grade levels). Coaches will be required to sign and follow our youth sports coaching contract and conduct themselves to the standards listed on the contract. Please call/text Andrew at 716-753-6842 if you would be willing to coach or assist this season. We would greatly appreciate it!
The fee for WESTFIELD RESIDENTS is $55 for the first child, $45 for the second and $35 for the third (max. of $135 per family).
The fee for NON-WESTFIELD RESIDENTS is $70 for the first child, $60 for the second and $50 for the third (max. of $180 per family).

JOB SERVICE
Westfield residents needing help with cleanup of their yards and other odd jobs are asked to call the Westfield Recreation Department at 716-753-6842 (Andrew) and we will assist in arranging a local teen to help. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to find a worker, but we will do our best! We serve as a third party to set up the person who needs the work done with someone who can do it. We do not have any input on the payment process.
We are still in need of new teens for the job service. Most jobs are typically raking leaves, mowing grass, other yardwork, snow shoveling, etc. If interested, please call the Westfield Recreation Department at 716-753-6842 (Andrew).
