More about NW Corner of Main and Portage Streets
At the end of BeeLines History of the NW Corner of Main and Portage Streets - Part II, a 1907 advertisement for The Cosy [sic] Café at the corner of North Portage and Main was mentioned, assuming it might have been the same restaurant as the 1912 diner at that corner.
However, a search of the 1906 Westfield Republican newspapers located the following notice in the December 19, 1906 issue, page 8. “Messrs Manville & Giddings of Conneaut O have rented the TRIPPI Building on N Portage & will open up a ‘Cosy Café’ where first class lunches will be served at all hours.
Since the only building near the NW corner of Main and Portage appearing on the 1907 Sanborn map is one at lot 207, address 6-8 N Portage, which was designated as a Pool Hall in 1907, but shows as a Restaurant and Barber Shop at those two addresses on the 1912 Sanborn map, it is more likely that this building was what was known as the TRIPPI Building at that time, rather than the 1912 diner.
