Town Clerk

The office of the Town Clerk is the nerve center of Town Government. This office performs such tasks as: preparing minutes of all Town Board meetings, issuing marriage licenses, fishing, hunting and dog licenses, operating as the Registrar of Vital Statistics for the Town and the Village (birth, death records), issuing transfer station punch cards, managing town records, issuing handicapped parking permits, responding to FOIL requests, acting as a Notary Public. This is a four year elected position.

The “Town” drop box is located on the front right hand side of the building for Town correspondences. The “Town” drop box is checked daily. 

Birth, Death and Marriage certified copies can be requested by mail please read below under Town Clerk's FAQ on how to request by mail or by appointment, call 716-326-3211option 2 or 716-753-0094. CALL TO SET UP APPOINTMENT FOR IN PERSON SERVICES.

Marriage Licenses will be issued by appointment only.

Dog licenses can be renewed online, please visit the Dog Licensing & Control page or drop in the Town drop box or by mail anything received (rabies certificate) will be mailed back to you.

Hunting licenses will be sold beginning Monday August 1, 2024.

Transfer Station Punch cards may be purchased at the Town Clerk's office during office hours for $30.00, includes 25 punches. They can also be purchased at Westfield Tops Market or Westfield ADD Lumber/True Value (a service fee may apply).

Town Clerk FAQs

Q. When do I need to license my dog and what is the fee?

A. New York State requires that dogs be licensed at the age of four months. Every dog owned or harbored in New York State for longer than thirty (30days) must be licensed in the town, city or village where the dog is being harbored.

Rabies information and spay/neuter forms from your veterinarian must be presented at the time of licensing. Licenses for spayed/neutered dogs are $5, $13 if they are not.

Q. What paperwork is needed when applying for a marriage license?

A. All applicants must present drivers licenses or state ID, birth certificate and or passport and divorce decrees when applying for a marriage license. Both applicants must be present at the time of application.  Applicants may not marry for 24 hours after receiving the license, which is good for 60 days. The cost is $40.

Q. What do I need to do to apply for a new birth certificate in person or by mail?

A. In person(BY APPOINTMENT ONLY), a driver's license must be presented to receive a copy of a birth certificate. Certified copies cost $10.00 check or cash. Birth certificates are only available to the person (18 years or older) named on the certificate or his or her parents. Form DOH-296A "Application to Local Registrar for Copy of Birth Record" must be completed.

B. By mail, include a written request or print form DOH-296A and include a copy of drivers' license and have the request Notarized. Include a self addressed stamped envelope and a check or money order made payable to the "Town of Westfield Registrar". Q. Where do I purchase a Transfer Station Punch Card for disposal of garbage?

A. Transfer station ticket punch cards may be purchased at the Westfield Town Clerk’s office, Westfield ADD Lumber True Value and Westfield Tops Market. You will receive 25 punches for $30.00.

ADD Lumber True Value charges a service fee of .50 cents. If you have any questions, please contact the Town Clerk at (716) 326-3211 option 2.

Q. Where may I purchase a fishing or hunting license?

A. Fishing licenses may be purchased from the Town Clerk’s office at 23 Elm Street. Hunting licenses go on sale the first week of August and may be obtained at the Town Clerk’s office.
