VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT FOR MAY OF 2021 IS JOSH & AMY BELCHER

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT FOR MAY IS JOSH & AMY BELCHER!

*The following write-up/picture is the latest edition of our monthly volunteer spotlight of volunteers in the Westfield Rec. Dept. We are blessed in the Rec. Dept. to have so many wonderful people who do and have volunteered their time both now and, in the past, to make our department and programs/events what they are today. We want to say THANK YOU! To nominate someone for volunteer spotlight, please send us a private message on Facebook or call/text Andrew at 753-6842.

Our volunteer spotlight for May is Josh & Amy Belcher! The Belchers have been coaching in our youth soccer programs for the last 8 years. They have coached both indoor and outdoor and have hardly missed any seasons. They have been some of our most dedicated coaches and have been so gracious with their time. They have coached all these years, even though they do not have a kid in the program. That is a rare feat in our programs and something that deserves to be mentioned. They have been some of our most enjoyable coaches and have made many great relationships with their players and their players’ parents.

In talking about their coaching experiences, the Belchers said, “We enjoy coaching both indoor and outdoor soccer but especially enjoy Erie day for indoor soccer.” Sadly, we have not been able to do “Erie Day” the last few years, but to us Erie Day is not so much about the actual event and the location, but about the great people who have been involved year after year like Josh and Amy. The memories that are built in these programs last a lifetime and we have enjoyed so many of them with the Belchers. Unfortunately, they were not able to coach this last fall season and it just did not feel the same. We look forward to hopefully having them back next season!

For people to spend so much of their time dedicated to youths and to making a difference in their lives, is something that is truly incredible, but also time consuming. When asked why they volunteer, Amy Belcher said “Josh grew up playing in the Rec. Dept. and it is a good way to give back to a program that we have enjoyed. I came along for the ride and enjoy watching the kids grow throughout the season.” You can see while watching the Belchers coach, just how much joy it brings them and how much they love to watch the kids learn and get better. We truly appreciate Josh and Amy and everything they have done for our programs. It is people like them, that make youth sports great, and they are some of the best role models we could ever find to lead our young people.
