Barcelona to Chautauqua Institution Multi-Use Trail

The Barcelona to Chautauqua Institution Multi-use trail is the result of years of planning to connect Chautauqua County’s recreational, cultural, and historic assets between Barcelona Harbor and the Chautauqua Institution. It will promote four season recreational opportunities and improve public health through increased exercise. The implementation plan identifies five distinct segments to improve the feasibility of implementation. Segments 1.1a and 1.2a run through Barcelona and Westfield, as identified on the Map below.

Thruway Exit Gateway

The North Portage corridor is the first impression many people have when arriving in town off of Interstate 90 (Thruway Exit 60). While some signage does currently exist to direct people to either destination, those unfamiliar with the area are unlikely to truly understand the assets located nearby. To remedy this issue, we propose a thruway exit gateway that will integrate visitors into the community, will exhibit and explain community assets and will allow for a transition from thruway driving into a complete street.

Main Street Mixed-Use Building Improvements

The overall strategic goal of the project was to revitalize the downtown business district to promote sustainable business development as well as growth while creating affordable housing units that make the downtown area more livable, while supporting the long term economic and cultural health of the Village of Westfield.

Project components include commercial and residential work for 8 buildings, as well as streetscape improvements.
