Q. When do I need to license my dog and what is the fee?

A. New York State requires that dogs be licensed at the age of four months. Every dog owned or harbored in New York State for longer than thirty (30days) must be licensed in the town, city or village where the dog is being harbored.

Rabies information and spay/neuter forms from your veterinarian must be presented at the time of licensing. Licenses for spayed/neutered dogs are $5, $13 if they are not.

Dog Licensing & Control

Every dog, owned or harbored in New York State for longer than 30 days must be licensed in the town, city, or village where the dog is being harbored. Town and Village of Westfield residents may apply for and renew a dog license at the office of the Town Clerk in Eason Hall. Owners will need:

Town Tax Collection

2025 County & Town Taxes will be received at the Town Clerks office at 23 Elm Street, Westfield, NY 14787 beginning Thursday, January 9, 2025-no sooner. In person tax payments will be accepted Monday-Friday 8:00am-1:00pm excluding holidays. Transactions are limited to one transaction at a time. Have your check made out prior to entering the building along with the entire tax bill, if paying by cash, have the exact amount. After 1:00pm use the Town Drop box (no cash payments in drop box). The Town Drop box is located on the right-hand side of the front door of the building.

Town Highway Department

The Town Highway Department is located on Chestnut Street in the Village of Westfield. The Highway Superintendent is an elected official (four year) with duties defined by New York State Highway Law. This department is responsible for the maintenance of 54.3 miles of road in the Town of Westfield. This includes snow removal, maintenance of roads and Town right-of-ways, and replacement of culverts and bridges.
